Labeling Translations To identify points on the IMAGE, write the prime (‘) symbol next to the same letter used in the ORIGNIAL figure. Segments connecting points in the original figure to their corresponding points in the image are congruent and parallel.

Using Coordinates We can translate images on the coordinate plane. To shift vertically (up or down) we will either add or subtract the number of units with the Y coordinate. To shift horizontally (right or left) we will either add or subtract the number of units with the X coordinate.
