COLLABORATIVE DESIGN PRACTICES “The work that is scheduled for construction this summer has been completely designed. But if a proposal from a student group is compelling enough, it may cause us to consider the designs already complete. I certainly don’t want to discourage anyone from studying a problem just because we’re down a certain path.” Studiotrope architect to Human Factors professor | February 27, 2014

VISIONING PROCESS

REDISCOVERING THE ARCHITECT’S ORIGINAL CONCEPT THROUGH CONSENSUS DESIGN

CONSENSUS DESIGN Consensus Design involves all parties interested in the end result. Ultimately, all interested parties have a stake in creating a successful project. The quality of this positive energy cannot be underestimated. Lawrence Bloom | Developer, London

LIBRARY AS LAB

GUIDING PRINCIPLES 3. Design should establish the Library as a place for gathering and collaboration; fostering exploration and creating; advancing interaction; 5. Strategies for collection re-organization should emphasize ease of use/browseability; stewardship and service; 8. Sustainability initiatives must upgrade performance, thus reducing energy consumption and carbon footprint; Excerpt from AURARIA LIBRARY BASIS OF DESIGN

TRI-INSTITUTIONAL DISCOVERY WALL The Discovery Wall can be outfitted with a wide range of software for scholars across the disciplines, and can be programmed for engaging, dynamic, and interactive exhibits. In future phases, it can be scaled up with additional monitors, controllers, and software.

FACULTY INPUT

SHARED VISION FOR THE DISCOVERY WALL In collaboration with campus partners, Auraria Library will host an innovative and interactive large- scale digital display wall to engage students and support learning, with an initial focus on water stewardship and sustainability education.

BUDGET AND EXPANDABILITY The impact factor of this project will be enhanced with increased funds. We have several pledges and are seeking additional funding from Auraria Campus partners to ensure a phenomenal student learning experience. Incremental dollars deliver a greater impact on student exploration and discovery.
