9. Nature of Work Mining was hard work. Miners worked long hours in dark mines with very little space. This work was extremely dangerous and caused disease.

10. Education and Training Needed There was none. Young boys were hired and most of them followed their dads into mining work.

12. Job Outlook The mining industry fell quickly. Oil was quickly replacing coal to be used as fuel.
