Assessment is Changing- The Flightpath Tracking System

What is changing?  Schools have been advised not to use NC levels  GCSEs are being reformed which means grades changing from traditional A* to G to 9 – 1

National Conference main outcomes…  There is no consistency across schools  Most schools are using an assessment model across all 5 years (concept of KS3 going)  Many schools are beginning to avoid sharing grade or numerical targets with pupils  Curricular word targets are being favoured  Many schools are reporting progress grades (how far have they come)

How does this affect us? YearImpact Year 7New GCSE grades 9 to 1 Year 8New GCSE grades 9 to 1 Year 9Mostly GCSE grades 9 to 1, some old GCSE grades Year 10New grades 9 to 1 En & Ma only, rest old GCSE grades Year 11Old GCSE Grades

What is a flightpath?  A flightpath is a forecast of the final grade in a particular subject based on assessment data  It has nothing to do with levels  It is not a working at grade  Pupils are placed on a flightpath determined by their knowledge, skills and understanding  Progress of the current flightpaths are tracked against expected flightpaths

What does progress look like? Knowledge, SkillsYear 7Year 8Year 9Year 10Year 11 Astronaut 9 Fly Plane 98 Ride Unicycle 987 Drive Lorry 9876 Drive Van98765 Drive Car87654 Roller Blade76543 Ride Bicycle65432 Run54321 Jump4321 Climb321 Walk21 Crawl1

Expected Flightpaths  These sit in the background but determine the progress colour of the current flightpath.  Most expected flightpaths are determined using KS2 performance in Reading, Spelling, Grammar and Maths  We use a National Dataset for this and our knowledge of your daughters  These may vary in different subjects.  Expected flightpaths to be reviewed twice a year

To conclude… Opportunities:  Same grade system across all year groups  Better consistency across all subjects  Intervention easier to target at KS3  Simpler tracking systems for all stakeholders Concerns:  This system is entirely new for pupils, teachers and parents  Time is needed for all to understand and engage with it
