What is Lexia Reading? A research evidenced phonics-based reading software. USA – UK – now fully anglicised. Individualised - all levels and abilities catered for. Based on phonological awareness, phonics, sight words, comprehension and vocabulary. Rapid results.

Why did WHPS choose Lexia Reading for a WIT project? WIT pupil priority supplement – aligned with our SEN. Reduced role of SENCO teaching. Flexibility – ease of use for both pupils and staff. Ideal extra tool for our SEN intervention.

Was it worth the money? SEN children Years 1-6 National Curriculum Reading Points Progress Jan 2011 – June 2011. SEN children using LexiaRest of the school 3.5 2.2

KS2 – Reading Tests Year 3 – Ave. Reading age increased by 9 months in same period. Years 4-6 less significant impact. KS1 – Reading Tests Ave. Reading age increased by 13 months in 6 months. Ave. raw score increased from 9 to 30.

How does it work? Recommended time 3 X 15-20mins a week. 3 levels of software: Early Reading Foundation Reading Strategies For Older Children Variety of activities Assessment places children at appropriate level.

Easy to use for the children – headphones and mouse. Clear instructions. 1 TA can supervise 10 children from different year groups at different abilities, safe in the knowledge that each child is actively engaged in reading activities that will develop their reading abilities. Children enjoy using Lexia “reading I can do” “look I’m getting them right” “Is it Lexia today?”
