ANNUAL TITLE I MEETING Legacy Traditional School

Why are we here? The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001 requires that each Title I school hold an Annual Meeting of Title I parents for the purpose of... Informing you of your school’s participation in Title I Explaining the requirements of Title I Explaining your rights as parents to be involved

What does it mean to be a Title I School? Being a Title I school means receiving federal funding (Title I dollars) to supplement the school’s existing programs. Title I funds are used to purchase special services for struggling students. Standard assessment test scores are used to qualify students for these services. You will be notified if your student qualifies for these services and how to get him/her involved in receiving these services.

How do we spend our Title I funds? Title I dollars are used to help struggling students by paying for... -Title I parapros for help in the classroom -Title I tutors for supplemental tutoring -Galileo tests that assess progress -Title I Instructional Coach to coach teachers and coordinate the program -Parental Involvement and Highly Qualified Teacher retention -KASAP (Kindergarten After School Academic Program, only available at our Casa Grande or Laveen Village campuses) These expenditures are detailed in our Title I plan (also referred to as the “Continuous Improvement Plan”). You have the right to be involved in the development of the Title I Plan. Please contact the Legacy Traditional School district with questions.

Assessments and Proficiencies : How do we determine that a student is struggling? AzMerit: Our schools administer this test yearly to assess the performance of our students relative to other student in the state. Levels of proficiency include passing levels (Highly Proficient and Proficient) and non-passing levels (Partially Proficient and Minimally Proficient). Galileo: Our schools also administer the Galileo test periodically to assess progress of our students throughout the year. Galileo testing has the same levels of proficiency as AzMerit. These tests help us to identify students that might be struggling. SIS: Our schools also administer the SIS (Spalding / Imagine It / Saxon) test 2-3 times a year to assess progress of our students on our school district’s curriculum. Struggling students: Students showing non-passing levels (or near non-passing levels) on these tests may be invited to participate in supplemental Title I services.

Title I: A partnership between Parents, Students, and their School A key component to being a Title I school is parent involvement as detailed in the following: The Parent Involvement Plan addresses how the school will work to build the school’s and parents’ capacity for strong parental involvement to improve student academic achievement. The Student-Parent Compact is a commitment from the school, the parent(s), and the student to share in the responsibility for improved academic achievement. A copy of each of these are available in the Student- Parent Handbook. You have the right to share your input in the development of these plans. Please contact the Legacy Traditional School district office with questions or input.
