13 Homework (Due THURSDAY 10.3) Option A: Draw an 8-panel cartoon detailing the key events of the Haitian Revolution. Option B: Make a political poster announcing the creation of the new Haitian state. Option C: Write a song of at least TEN RHYMING lines detailing the key events of the Haitian Revolution. PICK FIVE OF THE TERMS TO USE: Toussaint L’ouverture, Dessalines, Napoleon, French Revolution, Saint Domingue, liberty/fraternity/equality ( at least one of the three), sugar/coffee

14 1. Haiti used to be named St. Domingue and be a major center for sugar production.

15 We, the French people want liberty, equality, and fraternity. We overthrew our king because he was greedy and kept our people down. Under the leadership of our glorious leader Napoleon, we will regain St. Domingue and make the French Republic the most prosperous in the world!

16 On St. Domingue, slaves worked on the sugar plantation Until one day, they said, “Let’s start our nation!” Inspired by liberty and the ideals of the French Revolution, The slaves served their masters some good old fashioned retribution They said, “I don’t care if I have to wait until I’m eighty… We won’t rest in peace till we start this here country called Haiti!”
