3 Cause for Optimism : Egyptians were in a protected area: Cliffs to the West Red Sea to the East Their position gave them time to create an advanced civilization. Egyptians had all their needs provided: The Nile River was a source of life and it had a consistent cycle. Egyptians believed their gods were kind: Ra god of the sun Pharaoh son of the god Ra Sobek god of the Nile Osiris was the god of the dead, and ruler of the underworld.
