Nursing Role Named Nurse module
Care planning from admission to safe discharge Undertaking observations- e.g. B/P, Pulse, Temperature Risk assessments and other documentation Wound dressings Drug administration Working with multidisciplinary team members: social workers, Physio, Dr’s Talking & reassuring patients and relatives Provide hygiene needs to patients- e.g. bed baths, showering Dressing & Feeding patients Making beds & Cleaning equipment & Manual Handleing Ordering & Stocking equipment Disposing of bodily fluids e.g. vomit, urine and faeces Transferring & escorting patients To maintain own personal development

Surgical Division General surgical, orthopaedic and urology experience is a must You will have the opportunity to develop your skills working with your allocated mentor and supported by senior staff There are opportunities to undertake specialist courses in pain management, orthopaedics, urology and stoma care In-hospital study days Courses with King’s College London Learning Zone for independent study 3-4 shifts of 11.5 hours per week 14

Surgical Wards Surgical 3
20 bed elective general surgical ward taking a wide range of specialities from colorectal, urology, endocrine and orthopaedics. Surgical 4 14 bed Acute Surgical Admissions Unit (ASU) taking all surgical admissions from the Emergency Department. Patient on this ward stay for a maximum for 24 hours before transfer to one of the other surgical wards or are discharged. Surgical 5 28 Bed general surgical ward taking acutely unwell surgical patients with mainly colorectal problems. Also takes step down patients from ITU and patients with tracheostomies, very busy acute ward. Surgical 6 20 bed urology ward taking patients form the ASU, some ED and clinic patients. Surgical 7 28 bed orthopaedic trauma ward taking patient with a wide range of injuries following slips trips and fall or road traffic accidents. Quebec Ward (19 beds) and Bodington ward (28 beds) take all elective orthopaedics from major joint replacements to minor day surgery cases 15

The Neuroscience Nursing Team
The Kings College Hospital Neurosciences Service covers a population of over 3 million, both from the local area and the south east of England If you are successful at interview, we will endeavour to place you in area that matches your previous experience but you are being interviewed for the neuroscience unit as a whole and may be placed in another ward.

Neurosciences Wards (KCH and PRUH sites)
FSU is a 29 bedded ward, with 17 stroke rehab beds and 12 hyper acute stroke beds Frank Cooksey neuro rehabilitation unit is currently based in Lewisham hospital The Princess Royal University Hospital stroke unit is on Medical 5 ward and has a hyper acute stroke unit and a stroke unit and has a total of 40 beds The step down ward planned for Orpington Hospital is 20 beds and will be for patients who have had elective neurosurgery and need a period of a few weeks rehabilitation.It is planned to open in the next couple of months.

M2 – 20 Beds, Respiratory M3 – 20 Beds, Elderly Care M4 – 20 Beds, Respiratory M6 – 20 Beds, Gastroenterology M7 – 20 Beds, Short Stay Elderly Care M9 – 28 Beds, Acute Medical Unit EAU - 28 Beds, Acute Medical Unit S1 – 20 Beds, Elderly Care (Dementia Focus) S2 – 20 Beds, Elderly Care (Dementia Focus) Farnborough – 25 Beds, General Medicine & Endocrinology PIU – 14 Beds, General Medicine (Escalation Ward) Each Medical Matron is responsible for approx 60 beds (across 2-3 wards) Nursing Skill Mix Review Patient to Nurse Ratio - Not to exceed 8:1 Lower ratios for acute and specialist areas (ranging from 4:1 – 6:1) 20
