Principle of object detection Find circles using circular Hough transform Since holes has darker color, an mask filter that based on intensity will be created Only dark circular object w will be selected

Measure a hole After a circular object has been detected, the program will return it`s radii and center. There is a ruler stick on the plate, and there is a draggable distance tool. Drag the two endpoints of the distance tool to the two inch line and three inch line on the ruler. The program will return a pixel distance. Radii/(pixel distance) = radii in mm, then the area in inch square will be calculated Note: In this picture, 10 millimeters is 169 pixel-distance

Algorithm In this example the program will return the radii(64 pixel-distance) for the hole on the left corner. The radii in mm will be calculated as 64(radii in pixel-distance)/169(pixel distance for 10mm)*10 = 1.91mm From left to right

Rivet detection Very similar method to detect a rivet, but different than the hole, rivet has brighter color. NOTE: 10 millimeters in this picture is 166 pixel-distant.

Calculation

height of rivet Tape a piece of metal next to the rivet, and measure the thickness of the metal.

Height of the rivet Specify a region on the metal and calculate mean of phase shifting index, and then select a area on the rivet. Note: the thickness of the metal piece is 0.59mm, and diameter of the rivet head is 9.52mm

Result Index of rivet * mm/index will get the height of rivet
