2 The Beginning December 5, 1901 - December 15, 1966
Born in Chicago Illinois

3 The Early Days Walt was interested in drawing since he was very little. When Walt was 7 he started selling little drawings to nearby neighbors. Instead of doing his homework, Walt would draw pictures of animals and nature

4 The Start Walt’s talent for creating massive art forms took control when talked his sister, Ruth, into helping him paint the side of the family house with tar. Walt soon followed in the footsteps of his uncle mike and started working a summer job at the railroad station selling newspaper, popcorn and soda to travelers.

5 High School Walt attended McKinley High School in Chicago
Walt split up his attention between drawing and photography and started to help out with the school newspaper. At night he attended the Academy of Fine Arts to better his drawing abilities.

6 Acting Walt discovered his first movie theater on Marceline’s Main Street There he saw a dramatic black-and- white recreation of the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ. Even though money was low, Walt’s mother and older brother Roy encouraged him to keep his dreams alive.

7 Preforming At school Walt began to delight his friends by imitating his silent screen hero, Charlie Chaplin. Against his fathers authorization, Walt would sneak out of the house at night to preform comical skits at local theaters.

8 Red Cross During the fall of 1918 Walt attempted to register for military services. He was not accepted because he was under age and only at sixteen at the time. Instead, Walt joined the Red Cross and was sent overseas to France, where he spent a year driving an ambulance and driving Red Cross officials from point A to point B.

9 Failure Comes Into Play
Once he returned from France, Walt wanted to start a career in commercial art, which soon lead to his studies in animation. Walt began producing short animated films for local business, in Kansas City. By the time Walt had began to create The Alice comedies, Walt ran out of money, and his company Laugh-O- Grams went bankrupt.

10 Getting Back Up Again Instead of giving up his dreams, Walt packed his bags and with his unfinished script of The Alice Comedies in hand, headed for Hollywood to start a new business. He wasn't even twenty-two at the time

Laugh-O-Gram, Mickey Mouse, Steamboat Willie, Silly Symphonies, Mickey Mouse Club, Three Little Pigs,The Old Mill, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Disney land, EPCOT, and Disney World.

12 Timeline The Disney family moves to Chicago, where Walt draws pictures for the McKinley High School newspaper and attends evening classes at the Art Institute of Chicago. Walt dreams of becoming a newspaper cartoonist. Walt creates Laugh-O-Gram Films, Inc. with $15,000 from backers but goes bankrupt in one year. Walt creates his masterpiece Mickey Mouse. He joins the vanguard of the talking-picture revolution when he produces Steamboat Willie, an innovative cartoon that synchronizes sound and animation. During the next year, Mickey Mouse becomes a national sensation. Disney Studios develops an advanced multiplane camera that simultaneously shoots several levels of cels and backgrounds and gives depth to its films. Disney makes a contract with ABC television to air a one-hour television program in exchange for a $500,000 investment by ABC in Disneyland. Walt buys 244 acres of land near Anaheim, CA to build the site for Disneyland.
