Fixed Mobile Convergence Fixed Mobile Convergence is a transition point in the telecommunications industry that will remove the distinctions between fixed and mobile networks. Focused on providing a “superior experience” to the customers while being cost effective.
3
F.M.C Components Voice quality of wired network is superior than that of the mobile networks, so when a customer walks into his home/ office, user experience will improve if voice calls could seamlessly shift to the land line networks available at that location. Data needs are increasing, spectrum is becoming scarce, RF penetration is reducing with use of higher RF frequencies (2100 MHz) so it would make economic sense to seamlessly shift data access from 3G mobile phone to terrestrial network when ever MS is near the Fixed/ Wireless ADSL connectivity. FMC will converge VoIP on the same platform so that in case user is at a geographically distant location but connected over IP highways, then also his experience for handling voice and data needs will remain unaffected.
4
In enterprises, FMC is the concept of integrating various telephony networks whether fixed or mobile, backhauled on PRI or IP or leased lines, into a single handset with a single set of business applications, so that organization wide processes and resources like unified communication, Voice mail, Fax servers, Loggers and conference bridges run seamlessly. User could have a fixed phone on his desk or a GSM mobile phone in his hand, as an extension of the PBX or an IP phone connected to the office PBX. These networks shall have common “Call control” for various analog phones and other TDM devices, Mobile devices or other IP device used within the enterprise. “FMC platform” shall be Network agnostic, Carrier agnostic and Handset agnostic and allow the users flexibility in usage of the various communication devices. FMC Case Scenarios for Voice and Data Scenario I: Voice calls on Mobile SIM subscriber walking into his/ her residence should automatically be diverted to the landline network of his/ her residence. Achieved through “recording presence” and initiating through the Operator’s “IN” network. Scenario II: Data Calls on Mobile SIM subscriber walking into his/ her residence should seamlessly and automatically be handed over to wireless broadband network of his/ her residence; thereby decreasing the load on the 3G or Edge network of the operator. Achieved by specialized WLAN access points with built-in controllers which recognize registered users. These can trigger forwarding of calls to the land line in the premises.

Scenario III: Multi-location: In case a MS subscriber is registered at his residence and also at some other premises where he frequents, then the Voice and data calls for his mobile would be seamlessly handed over to the landline and Wi-Fi network used in the premises. It retains access of Voice and Data on the same handsets while the backhaul network is changed inside the private network. Scenario IV: Roaming Scenario: In case the MS subscriber is outside the reach of his telephone network (out side the country) his incoming calls shall land on the access device available with him. Scenario V: Unified Communication and PBX services: In a true FMC environment, user should be able to avail his/ her telephone calls, Voice Mail, Fax Mail, and other services of the office environment on his GSM handset or his desk phone or on VoIP phone thereby ensuring a single device operation for all his/ her varied communication needs.
