Graphing Equations in Slope- Intercept Form Algebra 1: September 24, 2014
2
With your neighbors, discuss what a y-intercept is and slope is when graphing an equation. Discuss what happens to a graph if the y- intercept changes. Discuss what happens to a graph if the slope changes.
3
Graph the Following On one set of axes, graph the following three together y = 2x + 3 y = 2x - 3 y = 2x On one set of axes, graph the following three together y = 2x + 3 y = 4x + 3 y = ½ x + 3

Graphing Equations and Functions in Slope-Intercept Form Slope-Intercept Form: y = mx + b m is our slope and b is our y-intercept Once your equation is in slope-intercept form, plot your b value on the y-axis. From this point, rise and run your slope value. Connect the dots and we are done!
5
Given the two equations, y = ¼ x – 3 and y = -x + 3, graph both of these equations twice. To graph twice, go in different directions for your slope.

Equation and Graph Practice 1. Suppose regular gasoline costs $2.76 per gallon. You can purchase a car wash at the gas station for $3. The graph of the equation for the cost of x gallons of gasoline and a car wash is shown below. Write the equation in slope-intercept form for the line

Equation and Graph Practice 2.) A construction crew needs to rent a trench digger for up to a week. An equipment rental company charges $40 per day plus a $20 non- refundable insurance cost to rent a trench digger. Write and graph an equation to find the total cost to rent the trench digger for d days.
