2 What they are… formal communications are official messages sent by an organisation informal communications are unofficial messages not formally approved by the business,

Formal: eg a company memo, fax or report Informal: eg everyday conversation or gossip between staff

4 Formal communication Advantages:
They help in the fixation of responsibility Maintaining of the authority relationship in an organization. There is hard proof Disadvantages: Generally time consuming, cumbersome and Leads to a good deal of distortion at times. Takes a lot of time Can cost a lot of money

5 Informal communication
Advantages: Fast communication between participants Its easier to see if someone understands Improves relations/Job Satisfaction Disadvantages: It may spread wrong or distorted news which may sometimes prove harmful even to the employees. Any secret matter is likely to be flashed without any problem or hesitation. This may cause a huge damage to any organization. Information released from such communication network is usually incomplete. Confusion can develop among the persons involved.
