SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Looking at the Emotional Level Through Experience we learn and build relationships. Without those experiences, we are not sure how to make connections with others in a positive way.

Building Blocks When there are cracks at the very base of this chart, all areas are affected. (Parenting a Child with Disruptive Behaviors, AB Health Services)

We need to directly teach many of these skills (i.e. Empathy is developmental – not something all children automatically have.) Like teaching a child how to ride a bike – you don’t get mad when they fall off because they are learning – you continue to teach them. Helping children learn how to regulate and understand their emotions requires the same patience.

We all use Tools Using literature – share “Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge” by Mem Fox

Wilfrid gathered tools to share with Miss Nancy together they learned and developed an understanding of a “memory”. This was done in a playful, experiential way. Through play and exploration, Wilfrid was able to make sense of his experiences and discover the intimacy and joy of friendship. Abstract Concept of a Memory
