Shepherds of God They are SHEPHERDS. The Gr. word poimen is used to describe a particular kind of spiritual leadership.
3
1 Peter 5:2 2 Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care.
4
Shepherds of God In the history of Christianity the role of the “pastor” has been one of the most confusing.
5
Shepherds of God “Pastor” comes from the Gr. word poimen. It’s only translated “pastor” once in most translations in Ephesians 4:11.
6
Ephesians 4:11 11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers.
7
Shepherds of God In the NT when it talks about shepherd it talks about a plurality of shepherds.
8

9
Shepherds of God It evokes such rich images of the provision and protection of the shepherd.
10
Shepherds of God It provides a broad outline of what shepherds do.
11
Psalms 23:1 1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
12
Psalms 23:2 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
13
Psalms 23:3 3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.
14
Psalms 23:4 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me
15
Psalms 23:5 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil;
16

Shepherds of God 2.They FEED the flock. 15 …Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” (John 21:15)
18
John 21:16 16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”
19
John 21:17 17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.”
20
Shepherds of God Shepherds provide a capable preacher and good teachers to feed the flock but they should also feed the flock themselves.
