Definitions Community Leadership Project = CLP Community Grantees = End grantees of CLP, those groups we make grants to Regranting Organizations = the intermediaries making grants to Community Grantees (in this case us) Funders = Hewlett, Irvine and Packard Foundations

ABOUT The Community Leadership Project

What is the Community Leadership Project? Goal: build the capacity of community-based organizations serving low-income people and communities of color. Funded by: David and Lucile Packard Foundation James Irvine Foundation William and Flora Hewlett Foundation 8 Million dollars for 3-year project, plus 2 million in challenge grants after project concludes in 2015

CLP 1 v. CLP 2.0 CLP 1 2009 – 2012 10 million for groups serving low income communities of color 12 regranters 16 technical assistance providers Smaller grants, grant sizes varied Rose called this Grassroots Leadership Initiative or GLI Additional stipends to participate in convenings CLP 2.0 2013 - 2015 10 million for groups serving low income communities of color 5 (8) regranters 5 technical assistance providers All get $20,000 per year for 3 years Better coordination between community grantees and TA providers We will call this CLP Cover costs of convening with $20,000/year grant money

Expectations Must demonstrate the ability, willingness and desire to increase the organization’s capacity and sustainability. Must be willing and able to do all of the following

Expectations Applicants who are invited to submit a full proposal will be required to complete an organizational survey by both staff and board members. Must be willing and able to do all of the following

Expectations Applicants who are invited to submit a full proposal will be required to complete an organizational survey by both staff and board members. Those awarded a grant will also have to retake the survey at the end of the grant period in order to measure progress. Must be willing and able to do all of the following
