18. What is this strange class? Genre Study of: –Science-Fiction –Mystery –Suspense –Horror –Fantasy

19. How Is the Course Structured? Five units based on 5 genres studied

20. How Is the Course Structured? Some units have an anchor text: –Science-Fiction = Cat’s Cradle –Fantasy = Lord of the Rings –Suspense = Kindred –Horror = Dracula

21. How Is the Course Structured? While reading the anchor text at home, students read shorter stories in class and complete creative projects and assessments based on their anchor texts.

22. How Is the Course Structured? Shorter stories allow for more reading comprehension and ACT practice Creative projects include creating a board game, filming a scene, creating a utopian society, etc.

23. How Is the Course Structured? Unit tests combine a student’s understanding of the genre, the anchor text, and the short stories read in class with an emphasis of how they represent that genre
