1 Timothy 1:3-11 – “As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do. Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned: From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; Desiring to be teachers of the law;

understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm. But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully; Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that

is contrary to sound doctrine; According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.”

Theme: How to behave in the house of God I Timothy 3:15 – “But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.”

I.Purity of Doctrine – vs.3-4 “Teach no other doctrine” – Meaning doctrine of a different kind from what he had taught Galatians 1:6,7 – “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from Him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel; which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.”

II.Purpose of Doctrine – v.5 The purpose of Paul’s charge is love not division Ephesians 4:3 – “Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”

II.Purpose of Doctrine – v.5 Pure doctrine always unifies and strengthens the church! I Corinthians 14:33 – “God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”

III.Perversion of Doctrine I Timothy 4:1 – “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” v.6 – “Having swerved” – Medical term which means to twist out of joint like an arm out of socket

III.Perversion of Doctrine The purpose of the law is twofold: 1.To reveal our sin Romans 3:20 – “Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in His sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.”
