“To improve patient care, we need accessible, reliable indicators of quality that are important to patients, and that can then be used to establish quality of care benchmarks, to flag potential problems or successes, follow trends over time and identify disparities across organizations, communities, populations and regions” (Stelfox, Boyd, Straus & Gagliardi, 2013, p.1). A patient and family model of care can help organizations achieve this goal. Along with this a successful application of the patient and family centered model of care will provide an increased sense of trust in the health care team (Ingram, et al. 2014).
