Beginners vs Experts Perform better at lower levels of arousal Skills are less habitual Increased arousal will take away attention from the skill performance Attention to cues is heightened, missing the unexpected, unable to react, therefore performance declines Perform better at higher levels of arousal Skills are more habitual and well learned Increased arousal allows the performer to attend to the important cues as doesn’t have to think about the skill doesn’t rely as much on cues so can attend to the unexpected
