Nelson County Schools College and Career Readiness Activities Operation Preparation – Middle Schools The Nelson County Schools Operation Preparation Activities took place in late fall/early winter 2014. Bloomfield, Boston, New Haven, and Old Kentucky Home Middle Schools eighth grade students were transported to Parkway Baptist Church where they participated in a Reality Fair. Each student was given a salary directly related to their GPA. The higher the GPA the better their job/pay. Then students were required to visit various community businesses (reps were sitting at tables) to pay their rent, electric bill, cable, car insurance, go to the grocery store, etc… to experience the reality of paying bills and making their money last for a month or longer…… A banker was present just in case someone needed a loan or wanted to start a savings account.
