7. What some Crossroads programs have achieved More than 1200 girls in Swaziland attend Girls’ Empowerment Clubs where they support one another while learning about their rights and where to turn if they are being abused.

In Ghana, more than 9000 women, men and children have been trained by legal literacy volunteers to identify their human rights and take a stand against abuse, challenge illegal customary practices such as widows being “given” to their brothers-in-law, and re-claim land they should have rightfully inherited.

9. Working with cooperatives and completing entrepreneurial programs in Western Africa has provided opportunities for women to gain the skills, confidence and independence necessary to develop their own businesses and support their families.
