Earth’s Structure Test Review Drill: Which part of the Earth creates the magnetic fields? How are they produced? Objective: SWBAT create a diagram of the Earth in order to prepare for the test on Friday.

Structure of the Earth Crust: Surface of the Earth Mantle  Lithosphere: Hot Rock  Asthenosphere: Soft molten layer  Mantle: Higher in temp. Thinner layer Core: Rotation creates magnetic fields.  Outer: Liquid Iron and Nickel  Inner: Solid Iron and Nickel

Continental Drift Theory that states all continents connected in a super continent then separated into the continents we see today.  Landform: Mountain ranges match up  Fossil: Similar animals on different continents  Climate change: Tropical plant fossils found in arctic area Scientists rejected because no mechanism for plate movement.

Plate Tectonics Convection currents in the mantle cause the plates to move. Boundaries: Areas where plates meet. Oceanic and Continental Plates.  Convergent: Subduction and mountain building  Divergent: New material is added  Transform: Causes earthquakes

Steps for determining where an earthquake occurs. Complete below.
