16. Code Committee Mission Statement The goal of the Code Committee is to empower and to encourage Brighton’s government, residents and businesses to use resources in an efficient and sustainable way, through the Town’s policies and regulations over building and land development.

Code Committee Initiatives Under Consideration Specific initiatives include, but are not limited to: Requiring, or providing incentives for, the use of LEED standards for new construction and re-development Revision of the Town Code as needed to ensure that innovative, sustainable building systems are allowed, with conditions Consideration of the recommendations of the Task Force in the update of the Comprehensive Plan Consideration of energy conservation and sustainability issues in environmental reviews, and expansion of the mandate of the Conservation Board, or a new citizens’ board, to include them Planning, and providing incentives for, the use of alternative means of transportation and of alternative-fuel vehicles for new construction and re-development

22. The 10% Challenge Participants pledge to try to reduce their carbon footprint by 10% Open to all residents, businesses, and institutions in Brighton Enrollment begins in December 2007 Kick-off event on January 7, 2008 Progress reports in April and August

23. Curb Your Car Week May 18-22, 2008 Participants pledge not to commute alone to work at least once during the week Possible supporting efforts include: Working with HR departments to support telecommuting Working with RGRTA for discounted bus passes Raffles for participants

24. Green Business Award Will be in collaboration with Brighton Chamber of Commerce Will provide the business community with information on energy-saving resources In the future, will highlight success stories of green business practices We encourage businesses to self-nominate.
