Energy Star Award Conant has reduced our electricity footprint by 33% in the past 6 years. We received an Energy Star award from the United States Environmental Protection Agency!
5
The Trash Audit We investigated four trash bags (⅓ of what was produced from our cafeteria in one day). We separated and weighed all the items in the trash bags. We found that 83% of what was in the trash bags was recyclable or compostable! Only 17% was really trash - just 7.5 lbs. out of a total of 44 lbs of waste! Here is a video of our trash audit
6
Composting in the Cafeteria We set up stations in our cafeteria to capture recyclables, compostables, liquids, and trash. This has dramatically reduced the amount of waste coming from our cafeteria.
7
The Green Team coaches kids to sort the right items into the right bins.
8
The E.L Harvey Field Trip The Green Team went on a field trip to the E.L Harvey recycling plant to see what actually happens to our recycling when it is shipped away.
9
State House Award Conant received the “Massachusetts Elementary School of the Year” award from the National Energy Education Project. Senator Jamie Eldridge presented our award.
