Bedrooms Carsen, Alex, Samantha, Tyler

Location Bedrooms may be located anywhere in the home as long as each bedroom has privacy of sight and sound. The group plan clusters all bedrooms in one area of the home.

A split bedroom plan seperates the master bedroom from the remaining bedrooms to provide greater privacy.

Location Another factor related to the location of bedroom is accesibillity. Each bedroom should open from a hallway instead of directly from another room. You should not have to pass through one bedroom to reach another. Bedrooms should have its own bathroom or be close to one.

Size and Arrangement The size of a room depends on the number of occupants, their age, and necessary furniture. Placing the bed should be the first consideration. Allow 22 inches of space on three sides for room to make the bed from both sides. Windows should not allow sun to shine onto the bed.

Size and Arrangement Ventilation should be possible without causing a draft across the bed. No pieces of furniture should interfere with circulation into the room. Tables should be the same height as the beds mattress. Lamps should be at appropriate height for reading. In front of drawers, a space of 40 inches is recommended for drawers. High ribbon windows are especially effective. They provide ventilation and privacy and unrestricted placement of furniture below.

Size and Arrangement In front of a closet, the clearance space is 33 inches. A 42 inch dress circle is needed for dressing. The location for a bedroom closet should be ajacent to the room entrance.

Size and Arrangement The min. closet space recommeneded per person is 4 to 6 ft. long and 24 to 30 inches deeper. A bedroom door should be in a corner of the room so it doesn’t interrupt wall space. Each bedroom will have at least one entry door and possibly one other door. The entry door should swing open into the room and space should be allowed for the door to fully open. Windows placed on two exterior walls are ideal for cross ventilation.

Master Bedrooms The master bedroom serves as a private retreat. An adjoing master bath is convenient for private use

Children’s Rooms The bedroom needs of a child changes as they grow. Future needs should be considered when planning the room. A min. size bedroom should contain at least 100 sq. ft. this size is ideal for a nursery that can be converted to a child’s bedroom in future years. Young children need plenty of floor space for play. As they grow their activities change, they may need higher shelves in the future and tables or desks for studying.

When designing a bedroom, it is very important to remember space between objects in the room and the placement of each room individually. Remember children’s bedroom must accomadate change, flexibility and creativity. Make sure to not over crowd a room.
