OBJECTIVE: I CAN EXPLAIN THE LEVELS OF ORGANIZATION IN MULTICELLULAR ORGANISMS. Organization of Life
2
What you will Learn The levels of organization in multicellular organisms. The characteristics of cells, tissues, organs, and systems. How cells, tissues, organs and systems are organized to create organisms.
3
Notebook Setup Open to page 138 Title the page: Levels of Organization in Organisms Date the page: April 7, 2016 Add the entry to your table of contents Create 2 columns for 2 column notes Label the left column: Topic Label the Right Column : Notes

Levels of Organization Living organisms have an organized structure. Each level of organization builds upon the level below it. (Smallest ) 1.)Cells 2.)Tissues 3.)Organs 4.)Systems (Largest ) 5.)Organism
5
Level 1: Cells Cells: are considered to be the basic structural and functional units of all living organisms.
6
Level 2: Tissues Tissues: are groups of similar cells working together to perform a common function. -The cells join together to form layers which are tissues.
7
Level 2: Tissues Plant Tissues Plants have 3 main types of tissue: dermal tissue, vascular tissue, and ground tissue. Animal Tissues Most animals have 4 main types of tissue: muscle tissue, epithelial tissue, connective tissue, and nervous tissue.
8
Question Muscle tissue is one of the 4 main type of animal tissues. What is muscle tissue made of?
9
Level 3: Organs Organ: is a group of two or more tissues working together to perform a specific job. -The heart is an organ. It is made up of all 4 main types of tissues which work together to pump blood throughout the body. Plants and Animals both have organs.
10
Question Your skin is an organ... So What composes (makes up) your skin?
11
Level 4: Systems System: is two or more organs working together to perform a specific job. Systems help perform the major functions of organisms and help organisms maintain stable internal conditions. -The human body contains 10 major systems. (Ex. Digestive System) Most plants contain only two systems (Ex. Root and Shoot System)
12
Question What is your digestive system made up of?
13
Level 5: Organism Organism: Is an entire living thing that can carry out all basic life processes and show all the characteristics of life.
14
Level 5: Organism *There are two types of organisms 1.) Multicellular are made up of many cells. Ex. Humans, a tree, a dog 2.) Unicellular are made up of only one cell. Ex. Amoeba and paramecium
15
What you Learned Cells work together to form... tissues, which join together to create... organs, which work together to form... systems, which join together to make... ORGANISMS
16
Output Activity Turn to page 140 Create something that will help you remember the levels of organization and what they are. Examples; A diagram Flow Chart Graphic Organizer Poem or Rhyme An Acrostic DO WHATEVER WORKS BEST FOR YOU! MAKE SURE TO USE COLOR!!!!!!!!
