Give each student: Paper (watercolor) Watercolor paints (white pallet trays) Paintbrushes (one thick, one small) Pencil Give each table: Basket of oil pastels Blue tone liquid watercolor tray (pre diluted in tray) Water cups OPTIONAL: Paint accessories (Toothbrush, salt shakers, small sponges etc.) Docent Setup List: Docent Clean up List: Make sure names are on back of art Place completed in the drying racks. Today’s Lesson Today you are going to create your interpretation of the ocean using watercolors and various tools to create the atmosphere of the vast ocean waters. Skill Development: Art@Booksin Teaching students about the properties of oil pastels and water based paints and how the process of resist paintings work. Curriculum extension, students are applying their knowledge of ocean animals into an art piece today. You will learn how to: Paint a flat watercolor wash Paint a Graded Wash Ocean Animals Watercolor

Facts about watercolor: Watercolor paint is made from colored pigment mixed with water. It is applied in thin washes of color that are gradually built up. Let’s get started.. Supplies Needed: Art@Booksin Pencil Paper (large watercolor paper) Oil pastels Watercolor paints Paintbrush Various colors and hues of Blue liquid watercolor in trays Optional: Watercolor Paint accessories (Toothbrush, salt shakers, small sponges etc.) Ocean Animals Watercolor

Art@Booksin Ocean Animals Watercolor Sketch your animal and its habitat (big is best) Outline your ocean animal and other details using your oil pastels (thickly is best), color the animals and other details using the pastels Draw lots of white, yellow, light green or similar wavy lines across your art paper using a oil pastels.

Art@Booksin Ocean Animals Watercolor Using the prepared trays of liquid watercolor paint in different shades of blue, Paint a blue watercolor wash over your sheet of art paper using any shades of blue you’d like. As the paint dries, really cool designs will appear in your paint. OPTIONAL: Before your paint dries, sprinkle some salt over the paper. Process:
