Safer computing: Downloading File sharing is frequently associated with illegal downloading and distribution; both are an infringement of copyright The Office of Information Security receives copyright infringement notices from the copyright owners Illegal downloading is a violation of the UGA computer use policies Illegal downloading is also a violation of the student code of conduct and can result in disciplinary actions 14

Safer computing: Key steps Choose and use strong passwords Adjust browser security settings to minimize online threats Set up a personal firewall – most computers come with a firewall in place; it just needs to remain active Keep programs and browsers up to date Install and use an antivirus program 16
