Ernest August Brauer "Nordheim is a spiritually bankrupt city. I never heard of any family that still used Family Devotion or table prayers. I knew of only one family where religious materials were ever read. Pastors made no calls on the sick or the dying, and no sermons were preached at funerals ” ( Schuricht family).

Martin Luther Frederick Salem, in his Beer, Its History and Its Economic Value as a National Beverage (1880) notes, "Luther's fondness for beer is well known, and on the evening of that eventful day at Worms, April 18, 1521, the Duke Erich von Braunschweig sent him a pot of Einbeck beer, to which he was specially addicted, and Luther said ‘ The best drink known to man is called Einbeck Beer ’”

Martin Luther G Also, Michael Jason, in his New World Guide to Beer (1988), notes that Luther received a gift of Einbeck beer upon his request on the occasion of his wedding. Lutheran scholar Luther Peterson recalls a visit to a restaurant in Einbeck where he found a beer coaster with portraits of Martin and Katie on one side and a tale about their receiving a barrel of Einbeck beer as a wedding present.

Food not Entertainment G Being drunk was severely looked down upon. "God does not forbid you to drink, he permits you to drink wine and beer: he does not make a law of it. But do not make a pig of yourself; remain a sober being." G Was designed by monks as “liquid bread” to sustain life while fasting.
