3 Texan World War A group of Dentonites lived in Oklahoma, yet Oklahoma passed laws to discriminate against the Dentonites. The Dentonites became angry, and assassinated the Oklahoma governor. This angered the Oklahoma people and they fought the Dentonites living in Oklahoma. However, this angers Texas, and they pledge to fight against Oklahoma. Unbeknown to Texas, California and Florida had signed a treaty to help Oklahoma whenever they were in trouble. Now Texas is fighting against Oklahoma, California, and Florida. Texas then calls on its’ allies, Louisiana and Arkansas to help fight.

4 European World War A group of Serbians lived in Austrio-Hungarian Empire, yet A-H passed laws to discriminate against the Serbians. The Serbians became angry, and assassinated the Austrio-Hungary arch duke. This angered the A-H people and they fought the Serbians living in Austrio-Hungary. However, this angers Russia, and they pledge to fight against the Austrio-Hungarians. Unbeknown to Russia, Germany and the Ottoman Empire had signed a treaty to help A-H whenever they were in trouble. Now Russia is fighting against Austrio-Hungary, Germany, and the Ottomans. Russia then calls on its’ allies, France and Britain to help fight.

9 Sinking of the RMS Lusitania May 1915 German Submarine sinks a British passenger ship About 1,900 died, 120 passengers were Americans The Germans had warned the Americans and British about sinking the ship before it left port. There is great evidence that the ship was sneaking weapons and money from America into Great Britain.

13 For Texas… 198,000 Texans saw service in the armed forces during the course of the war. 5,170 Texans died 1/3 rd from Spanish Influenza Forts were established Camp MacArthur at Waco Camp Logan at Houston Camp Travis at San Antonio Camp Bowie at Fort Worth Aviation schools and bases also were created.

14 WWI in Texas The Texas State Council of Defense was established to cooperate with the National Council of Defense. Some restrictions were placed on the customary freedoms of speech and press. Each public school was required to be equipped with a suitable flag and to spend at least ten minutes a day in teaching intelligent patriotism. "Give Till It Hurts," "Do Your Bit," "Buy More Bonds," and other slogans found a place in the popular mind.

15 WWI in Texas Texans bought Liberty and Victory Bonds and War Savings Stamps and contributed to the Red Cross, Salvation Army, and other wartime organizations. They also cooperated in the food- conservation program known as "Hooverizing," which included wheatless Mondays and Wednesdays, meatless Tuesdays, and porkless Thursdays and Saturdays; fat and sugar were to be conserved every day. 16 Outcome The Central Powers lost: Germany, Austrio- Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire. Germany lost its military, land, and economy. Germany had to pay France and Britain for the war damage on their countries. France and Britain had to repay America for war supplies to fight the Germans. America had to give loans to Germany to pay Britain and France.
