What does the term “Mardi Gras” mean? Mardi Gras (French words) = Fat Tuesday ( «λιπαρή Τρίτη» ) In many countries in the world, carnival celebrations finish on Mardi Gras, this year, on Tuesday 21 st February 2012.

What is happening on this day? People take part in parades, dance a lot and wear wonderful costumes. Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans, USA.

Mardi Gras – Fat Tuesday « λιπαρή Τρίτη» = People eat fatty foods on 21 st February since the following day “Ash Wednesday” is the beginning of the Lent ( Σαρακοστή )

In England, Mardi Gras is called “Pancake Day” On this day, people eat pancakes.

On Pancake Day, pancake races are often held in villages and towns English hold races on this day using pancakes ! They run through the streets, holding frying pans and tossing the pancakes. They mustn’t throw the pancake on the road!
