Icebreaker: Do You Know? More than 90% of deaf children are born to hearing parents. Derrick Coleman of the Seattle Seahawks was born deaf. All deaf students use American Sign Language. Marlee Matlin is the only deaf person to ever win an Academy Award. All people who are deaf or hard of hearing were born that way. 3 ASL Accommodations & Computer-Based Assessments

Recent Legal Cases National Association of the Deaf (NAD) v. Harvard University National Association of the Deaf (NAD) v. Massachusetts Institute of Technology Why? Inaccessibility of online materials What Happened? DOJ Statements of Interest Both schools requested stay or dismissal. February 9, 2016, judge recommended denial of the universities’ motions in full.
