3 N ATIONS OF THE P LAINS  Many different Native American nations lived on the plains.  Each nation had its own language.  Indians captured and tamed wild horses.

4 W AY O F L IFE Plains Indians relied on buffalo for food, clothing, and shelter. Small bands of about 100 people often lived together like a large family during the winter. Buffalo was a main item in the Indian's diet.

5 R OLE OF W OMEN Women oversaw life in the village and in the home. Women were skilled in many crafts. They made clothing, tipis, and tools.

6 T RADITIONS They hunted together, played games, and staged foot and horse races. The most important event was a religious ceremony known as the Sun Dance.
