4 Deborah (Debbie) Barber Town of Camp Verde 25 years of service in government  20 years in City Clerk’s position Retired – January 8, 2015 Message to fellow clerks: Never give up! Remember, you are the Guardians of Democracy, which means that sometimes you have to take a stand that is unpopular and unsupported by management. In our jobs, the citizens must come first and they depend on you to be impartial, fair, and balanced. Democracy depends on you. You are in for the ride of your lives. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Best to you all!

5 Chris Hagen City of Tolleson 14 years of Service in Government:  13 years in Clerk’s position: Retired – July 2, 2015 Favorite memory: After seven years as a one person department we were approved for a Deputy City Clerk position which led to the promotion of Crystal Zamora to Deputy City Clerk, in 2013 we were approved for a full time Records Coordinator and we added Michelle Smythe to our team. I have also enjoyed having a very close and trusting relationship with Mayor and Council. Message to fellow clerks: 1.Take pride in delivering excellent customer service to all inside/outside of your community and offer as many services/tools to co-workers as possible. Maintain your professionalism and always do your best—it will be noticed and some co-workers will actually catch on. Don’t beat a dead horse with the agenda timelines—it is what it is and it takes away from your professionalism and effectiveness. 2.Maintain a balance between your personal and professional life—take care of your health.

6 Favorite memory: There is not one specific favorite memory of the years in the Clerk’s Office, except the camaraderie and support that Clerks show to each other. That is the most special memory I can take from my years of service. I couldn’t have gotten through some of the experiences without having drawn on the expertise and knowledge of others, and all of it was given so unselfishly. Message to fellow clerks: Professional: Always be willing to learn something new, always be willing to help other Clerks, and never feel embarrassed about asking other Clerks for help. Personal: Retire before you die at your desk. Mary Rose Evans City of Litchfield Park 26 years of service in government:  20 years in Clerk’s position Retired – June 30, 2015
