8 Dive In Discover Celebrating 25 Years of Loussac: Enriching our community for generations!  1,000 volunteers contribute 7,000 hours annually--sort materials, organize and host programs and events, and serve on the three library boards.  Anchorage voters passed bond in 2008 totaling $2,900,000 for renovations and upgrades to Anchorage Public Library facilities.  Girdwood voters passed a $1,000,000 community levy to build a new branch library and community room. Community Investment  Friends of the Library and Anchorage Library Foundation contribute nearly $100,000 each year for materials, programs and equipment.  Over $14M in government, foundation and private support raised through public-private partnership of Municipality and Anchorage Library Foundation, 2006-2010.

Anchorage Library Community Plan  2009: input from over 6,000 residents to create a community- supported vision for the Library.  Library in a struggle for survival. Over past 25 years: library first cut in bust years, funding not restored in boom years.  Library has HUGE potential as a community resource.  Working with community partners, the Library can move beyond survival mode, into a thriving public library.

Anchorage Library Community Plan Five areas of focus: 1.Create a more welcoming, community-centered Library. 2.Encourage a new generation of library users while engaging traditional users. 3.Enhance customer service. 4.Let people know what the library offers. 5.Reduce operating costs and secure new sources of funding.

The Future of the Library  Teen Underground: a high-tech, vibrant space for teens to collaborate, study or just hang- out. Opening summer 2010. Thanks to Anchorage Rotary Club!  Loussac: 25 th Anniversary Celebration to launch generational renewal initiative. Community picnic on September 10 th and other activities throughout the year!
