Overview of Hawaii State Public Library System (HSPLS) Only statewide library system in United States Hawaii State Board of Education governs both statewide public school system and HSPLS 9-member Board of Education appoints the State Librarian (Stacey Aldrich) HSPLS has 50 branch libraries spread over 6 of the 8 major Hawaiian Islands

2014 usage statistics for HSPLS 3,723,877 physical items circulated 356,120 e-books, e-audiobooks, e-magazines borrowed >50% increase from 2013 1,920 users of Microsoft’s HI Tech Academy 1,984 enrollments in Gale Courses 3,942 sessions for language learning (75,745 minutes)
