The Human Brain is the “master control” of the Central Nervous System, and directs all functions in the body.
3
The brain is divided into 3 main sections; The Brain Stem, the Cerebellum, and the Cerebrum. Each section controls a specific area of the human thought and function process.
4
The brain is protected by the skull, and its connected to the skull by 3 layers of tissue called Meninges.
5
The Cranial Cavity is filled with fluid that keeps it from being crushed under its own weight, and protects it from trauma.
6
--Blood vessels run throughout the brain to supply it with Oxygen. 20% of your oxygen goes here.
7
The brain stem is the main connection from the Spinal Cord to the main part of the brain.
8
The brain stem controls… 1. The motion and senses to the face. 2. Controls and regulates heartbeat, breathing, and blood flow.
9
This is the smaller section located behind the Brain Stem, and under the brain’s main section (cerebrum).
10
The Cerebellum controls… 1. your balance and posture. 2. This section also helps to regulate heartbeat, breathing, and blood flow.
11
This is the main section of the brain, and is control of most of our thoughts and intelligence.
12
This section is divided into halves, called Hemispheres Each Hemisphere controls something about how we think and act.
13
1. All limbs on the LEFT side of the body. 2. Controls language, creativity, and artistic thought. (the ‘hands-on” creative thinking area)
14
1. All limbs on the RIGHT side of the body. 2. Mathematical thinking, logic, and problem-solving (the mathematical/scientific thinking area)
15
Human thinking can be dominated by 1 of your hemispheres. For example, People good at Math and Science are LEFT- brain dominant, while people good at writing and being artistic are RIGHT-brain dominant.
16
This is the largest part of the cerebrum, and is the section located in the front of the brain.
17
This section controls… 1. Your thinking/intelligence, and behavior. 2. Muscle motion, coordination and speech 3. sense of smell.
18
This is a wedge-shaped area in the brain’s backside.
19
This section controls… 1. Sense of touch and feeling with fingers. 2. Processing information collected by your 5 senses.
20
This is the smallest cerebrum section, located in the very back of the brain.
21
This section controls… 1. Your vision/eyesight. 2. Reading skills
22
This is the center section of the brain, located right above the brain stem.
23
This area holds… 1. All your memories 2. Sense of fear. 3. Hearing and Sense of music. 4. Understanding language. 5. Sense of self-identity.
24
This is the section inside the brain’s center.
25
Hypothalamus controls… 1. Your mood. 2. Your body’s temperature 3. Sense of pain, thirst, and hunger. 4. Homeostasis 5. Fight/flight
26
This is a small sac that hangs under the brain. It is considered the “master hormone gland” and produces most of the hormones used by the body.
