Mission System MissionPuebloRanchoPresidio Were set up for religious purposes People grew food for soldiers Crops are grown Home for solders who defended missions Men farmed and cared for the animals Workers got money, land and animals for supplying food and water to the presidio Horses, cattle, sheep and pigs are raised Became trading centers Woman cooked, sewed, gardened and made candles and soap Mostly used for growing crops Over time, Ranchos replaced missions as the center of the areas economy Used to occupy the areas Spain wanted Older people fished and made arrows Set up on farmland near the presidio Often used to raise large amount of livestock Also any Spanish settlers living in the area could live in one

Mission Life The purpose of the missions were to spread Christianity and claim some of the new world. Also, so the Native Americans would support Spain. The Native Americans daily life was to tan hides, make candles, make soap, weaving baskets, and shearing sheep. Also, the mission began when the first bell rang at sunrise

Problems at the Missions California Indians at the missions Got treated poorly Had to change lifestyle Had to dress differently Had to pick crops Had to follow a schedule California Indians fought the missions Didn’t like conditions Wanted freedom Wanted rights

San Juan Capistrano San Juan Capistrano was built on November 1, 1776 San Juan Capistrano is the 7 th mission in the order of all the missions San Juan Capistrano mission is located in San Juan Capistrano California San Juan Capistrano is 60 miles from San Diego The founder of San Juan Capistrano is Junipero Serra An interesting fact about San Juan Capistrano is my mission is named after St. John of Capistrano
