Dividing a Decimal by a Decimal The trick is to convert the number you are dividing by to a whole number first, by shifting the decimal point of both numbers to the right. Now you are dividing by a whole number, and can continue as normal. 66253 5 1 2. 13. 2 = 106 26 5 5 265 0 Example1:

As a final check you can put your "common sense" hat on and think "is that the right size?", If I have 70 candies and I want to divide them Equally between 4 friends, how much will each one get?? Does 17.5 make any sense … YES
