* Divide the top number by the bottom number * Example: 4\9 First: set up 4 divided by 9 Next: Add a decimal point after the 4 and add three 0s Then: move the decimal point up and do 4 divided by 9 Answer:.4 repeated

* Figure out what place the decimal is * Example:.4 First: figure out what place the last number is Then: since the 4 is in the tenths place, we put the 4 over 10 Lastly: You would have to simplify 4/10 4/10=2/5 Answer: 2/5

* Lets say the regular price was 100.00 and it was 25% off. First convert the percentage to a decimal number. So 25%=.25. Second multiply the decimal to the regular price..25 times 100=25. The discount would be 25.00. Also using tips is another example with converting fractions to decimals.

* When you are at the gas station and the sign says 4 9\10. They really mean $4.90 but they put it in a fraction so it looks cheaper. * When you convert Celsius to Fahrenheit you do F=C x 9\5+32. You can convert 9\5 to a decimal because it is easier to add a decimal and a whole number.
