2 What does Tourism look like in Marion?

3 Where is the Tourism sector? In the TSA, tourism is defined as: ‘Comprising the activities of persons travelling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes not related to the exercise of an activity remunerated from within the place visited.’

5 The focus of Marion’s Draft Tourism Strategy Our three objectives: 1.Build Visitor Numbers in the City of Marion 2. Leverage visitation for the benefit of all Marion tourism businesses 3. Increase the length of visitor stay in the City of Marion

6 Our Strategies Establish a Tourism Steering Group (done) Target the most realistic and productive markets Inform destination development projects Linking/leveraging and packaging of products Investment attraction to support the strategy Influence of complementary parties to the strategy Adoption of cooperative marketing opportunities Resourcing residents to provide tourism information to their guests Review of significant tourism distribution points around the city Cultural Tourism, Cycling and Walking Tourism
