We’re Flipping Out! Miss Thorp lthorp@bssd.net
2
Your “Homework” will be to watch a video and work through the notes for the content we will be exploring in class the next day. Your class work will be to work through problems/explorations that pertain to the video you watched the night before (your typical “homework” in a traditional class)
3
You will come to class with your completed notes and examples. ◦ Some lessons will be available to print a note- taking guide; otherwise you will write your own notes in your notebook We’ll begin class by briefly highlighting key concepts from the notes you have viewed You will have the remaining time to: ◦ Work on class work ◦ Check your class work ◦ Work on challenge questions
4
In a traditional classroom there is very little time for individual questions to be answered. ◦ Flipping the classroom allows me to double my time with you. The “lecture” part of class is gone allowing me to work with each one of you every day. This becomes a collaborative environment ◦ If you do get stuck you’ll have other resources available to you (notes, peer help, teacher, etc.) Absences are less stressful ◦ If you are absent you have access to the notes and class work which will help you stay caught up
5
This is your role: ◦ View/complete the notes at home each night You will access videos, note-taking guides and class calendar on my webpage: http://www.bssd.net/Domain/2103 VERY important that you watch the notes each day ◦ Work through the class work Try each problem on your own If you have questions look back at your notes first If you are still stuck, check with a partner If you are STILL stuck, check with your teacher ◦ Check your class work once it is completed ◦ Figure out mistakes on class work ◦ Show your graded work to the teacher before the end of the class period ◦ Work on Challenge Question (extra credit if correct)
6
This is my role: ◦ Quick recap of the notes to stress key concepts ◦ Walk around to check that your notes are completed and see if you have any questions from the notes ◦ While walking around I’m available to help you. Keep in mind I will not give you the answer, but rather guide you through the process to help you answer your question. ◦ Look over your completed/checked class work and help you figure out any mistakes
7
Have a device at home for your child to be able to access videos ◦ Internet is the best option The videos are on YouTube ◦ If you do not have the internet at home, the videos can be downloaded onto a flash drive or CD/DVD Encourage your child to watch and re-watch videos ◦ Great way to study for upcoming tests/quizzes You are also welcome to watch the videos yourself if you need a little Geometry refresher.
