The Writing Process Day 5: Proofreading/Revising
2
Proofreading Proofreading means to read over your essay to look for mistakes. You should always read over your writing before handing it in. As you proofread, ask yourself these questions:
3
Proofreading Questions Did I follow my 4 square? Do I have a beginning, middle, and end? Do all of my details support my central idea? Do I have enough details? Are my details in logical order? Are there any parts that a reader might not understand?
4
Checking the Mechanics Next, check the mechanics of your essay. As you check the mechanics, look for: Spelling Capitalization Punctuation Usage Sentence structure
5
Revising Revising means to rewrite your essay with changes. You should make changes to your rough draft. Then, rewrite it as a clean, easy-to-read, final draft. As you write your final draft, you may make a mistake. If you decide to take out some writing, cross it out with one line. If you decide to insert some words, use a caret (^). Make your changes as neatly as possible.
