Alternative Fuel About 50% of Railroad is now running on Electric traction which is indigenously generated 10% bio-diesel is blended with HSD oil including jatropha, palm oil, karang, cotton seed oil, mahua oil & waste fish

Green Signals and Stations Manwal station on Jammu- Udhampur rail route has all its lights & fans working on solar power Northern Railway is running around 150 unreserved ticketing systems (UTS) on solar energy Solar lights are being used for lighting of signals Solar lights now available at majority of level crossing gates.

SUBURBAN AND METRO RAIL One 6 car metro rake per trip removes 16 buses /300 cars /600 two wheelers from the road. Mumbai suburban carries 6.9 million commuters/day. On 1 st August, 2011 Delhi metro had 1.8 million passengers by 2016 it will carry 4 million passengers /day. It has earned Rs. 400,000 carbon credits by saving energy through regenerative banking. Chennai metro will become functional by 2015 Kolkata metro has eased the congestion on roads
