Problem? Chapter lacks coherent structure Positions new, not yet defined ◦ No clear reporting channels, no accountability, ◦ No defined responsibilities Implementing structure will allow for effective delegation of responsibilities from chapter president ◦ Last two years have been largely run by sitting presidents ◦ We have a solid group, need to turn it into an effective team

Solution Undergo transitional phase Current positions not elected/appointed on proposed grounds, so current titles remain Listed responsibilities may be divided Goal is to transition to proposed structure by year’s end, fully implement following elections in April

President Call for, organize, and preside over all club meetings and events Write and send all official club e-mails to the greater community, including distributing the Hamiltonian Weekly Develop and present the Annual Chapter Plan and the Annual Chapter Review to membership in September and April, respectively Serve as the primary communicator to ◦ The national Hamilton Society organization, regarding periodic updates and budgetary decisions ◦ Other chapters, both student and professional, of the Hamilton Society ◦ The chapter’s faculty adviser ◦ SOFC, DSG, and the Duke administration ◦ The greater Duke and Durham communities

Internal Affairs Team

VP of Internal Affairs Coordinate monthly faculty dinners, biweekly meetings, and other events for core membership Serve as Editor-in-Chief of The Hamiltonian Weekly blog and contribute chapter news Foster chapter cohesion Manage the core membership listserv Lead the Secretary, the Historian, the Treasurer, and both the Political and Economic Contributors

Treasurer Manage all club funds Make budgets and process costs for each club event Collect membership dues Request reimbursements funds from the national Hamilton Society organization

Secretary Manage chapter Dropbox account Take notes at all meetings, email to core membership and upload to Dropbox Document content of chapter events

Historian Document all AHS events through media and post to Facebook page Manage long-term documents on Dropbox

External Affairs Team

Vice President of External Affairs Coordinate monthly faculty dinners, biweekly meetings, and other events for core membership Manage the non-core listserv Lead the Public Relations, Marketing, and Recruitment Officers

Public Relations Officer Serve as liaison to the Chronicle staff Manage the chapter Facebook page Manage chapter contact with other student groups not otherwise listed, especially those related to core organizational interests

Recruitment Officer Plan and coordinate recruitment events, including the Fall & Spring Activities Fairs and an open house each semester Organize class-visits with chapter officers to present AHS to new students

The Hamiltonian Weekly

What is it? The Hamiltonian Weekly sprouted from Max’s suggestion that the chapter sponsor a weekly newsletter Weekly blog or news email listing top news stories in both politics and economics ◦ Option for chapter commentary and/or online discussion Complements core AHS debates by providing a consistent service to the greater community between events ◦ Unmatched by AGS or the Chronicle ◦ Improves credibility of chapter as “the Foreign Policy guys”

Political Contributor Provide weekly content for the Hamiltonian Weekly on foreign policy and political developments, both domestic and abroad

Economic Contributor Provide weekly content for the Hamiltonian Weekly on economic policy and economic developments, both domestic and abroad

Three-Tiers of Membership

Leadership Consists of elected members Involved in running of the organization through specific responsibilities Eligible to attend any AHS event, including post-debate dinners

Membership Joined by paying the Treasurer $10 and having name added to membership listserv Only dues-paying members can run for office or vote Eligible to attend monthly faculty dinners, socials, and other events

Greater Community Non-dues paying members, including those on general AHS listserv Eligible to attend any public AHS event Free access to the Hamiltonian Weekly via blog or email to general listserv

Referendum Proposed chapter structure, the Hamiltonian Weekly and the membership system are separate items Each require passage by a quorum of the leadership to implement (7 out of 9 members) We will have a period of open email discussion, followed by a private vote
