Assessment at Much Woolton 2014-2015
2
Changes in 2014-2015 All schools are required to follow the New National Curriculum in Years 1, 3, 4 and 5 Level descriptors have been removed from the National Curriculum Expectations within each Year Group have been raised considerably When the new end of KS1 and KS2 tests are published (2015-2016) there will be a greater focus on using and applying skills in different contexts
3
2014-2015 end of Key Stage Tests Teacher Assessment and Tests remain the same this year in Years 2 and 6. Pupils will still be tested on the old National Curriculum Teachers will also be preparing them for the new curriculum and taking learning objectives from both, so they too are ready for the demands of the New National Curriculum
4
Years 1, 3, 4 and 5 All teachers at Much Woolton are teaching from the New Programmes of Study in the new National Curriculum The expectations are significantly higher. In many cases objectives from the year above have been moved to the year below. As well as teaching from the new National Curriculum, teachers are going back over the learning objectives from the previous year to ‘fill the gaps’ with the jump up in expectations Levels have been removed but teachers must still assess pupils and see if the are in line with their Age Related Expectation (ARE).
5
Age Related Expectations (ARE) How Much Woolton is carrying this out We have joined Liverpool Assessment Project to ensure: - Most up date information on teacher assessment -To work with a team and help our school in maintaining a ‘robust’ assessment system -To ensure we are accurate in our teacher assessment judgements -To develop a ‘standard’ across Liverpool Schools Class teachers will be able to indicate whether your child is: -Emerging towards ARE -At the expected ARE -Exceeding ARE Major change – the progress is within the year rather than the movement up in sub-levels
6
Age Related Expectations (ARE) 2 In order to make these judgements, staff are using a number of sources of information: -Classroom observations -Work in children’s books -Short assessment tests.
7
Raise in Expectation By the end of the Year: Emerging Indicates your child continues to need further work on the previous year’s learning objectives. They will be supported in class with this but will also, most likely, be accessing some of the new learning objectives as well Expected Indicates they are coping well with the New National Curriculum and able to meet the higher demands within it. Exceeding Indicates they are both coping well with the New National Curriculum but also working on learning objectives in the Year Group above.
8
Changes in 2015-2016 Pupils in Year 2 and 6 (currently Year 1 and 5) will be sitting the New tests in line with the New National Curriculum Expectations for these pupils will be higher in the new tests Year Two will also sit a Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation test. Tests in Year Two will continue to inform Teacher Assessment judgements At present progress is measured from the end of Year Two to Six, however, this will change and the baseline will be measured from Reception to the end of Year Six. In light of this EYFS will begin to put a baseline into place.

How to help your child All children (Yr1-6) have ‘Learning Ladders’ in the front of their Mathematics and English books so they can see which target they have achieved and which they are working on. TARGETSSEENSECURE Number, place value, approximation and estimation/rounding I can count from 0 in multiples of 4, 8, 50 and 100. I can compare and order numbers up to 1,000. I can read and write numbers to 1,000 in numerals and words. I can find 10 or 100 more or less than a given number. I can recognise the place value of each digit in a 3-digit number. I can identify, represent and estimate numbers using different representations. I can solve number problems and practical problems using above.
10
How to help your child Each year group have half termly learning journeys which indicate the topics that will be covered Focus on the targets set by the class teacher at Parents’ Evening Take a booklet which has ‘I can’ statements indicating what objectives have been taught in Mathematics and English
