CHALLENGES TO EFFECTIVE PRACTISE 70% of our urban population live in unplanned settlements By 2015 42% of all Kenyan population will live in urban areas- 1KM drive within Nairobi’s CBD takes 1 hr btw 7.30-9 1600-1800 Unplanned developments compromise service delivery especially health and security. Higher crimes and more diseases associated with unplanned developments

and government has not acknowledged the serious chaos existing within land use planning- housing, road railway, telephony and infrastructure,

AIM OF THE STUDY : how do we correct ubiquitous unsound developments? Contribute to rapid, effective solutions as environment experts with primarily government ownership of the problem and then, participation

Closely examine the discipline of land use planning and its potential for solutions

Acknowledge that nothing will change without political and administrative will and participation
