What do you know about the attacks in Paris on Friday night? Lesson Objectives To understand the events of the Friday 13 th Paris attacks in relation to the Islamic Religion and Muslims worldwide. To appreciate that not all Muslims are to blame for the terrorist attacks.

What questions would you like to ask about the attacks in Paris on Friday night? You have a few minutes to write your questions in the back of your books. If they have not been answered in todays lesson, we will answer them next lesson.

You never think it will happen to you. It was just a Friday night at a rock show the atmosphere was so happy and everyone was dancing and smiling and then when the men came through the front entrance and began the shooting, we naively believed it was all part of the show. It wasn't, just a terrorist attack, it was a massacre. Dozens of people were shot right in front of me. Cries of grown men who held their girlfriends dead bodies pierced the small music venue. Futures demolished, families heartbroken in an instant. Shocked and alone, I pretended to be dead for over an hour, lying among people who could see their loved ones motionless.. Holding my breath, trying to not move, not cry - not giving those men the fear they longed to see. I was incredibly lucky to survive. But so many didn't. The people who had been there for the exact same reasons as I - to have a fun Friday night were innocent.

Images of those men circling us like vultures will haunt me for the rest of my life. The way they meticoulsy aimed and shot people around the standing area, I was in the centre of, without any consideration for human life. It didn't feel real. I expected any moment for someone to say it was just a nightmare. But being a survivor of this horror lets me able to shed light on the heroes. To the man who reassured me, to the couple whose last words of love kept me believing the good in the world, to the police who succeeded in rescuing hundreds of people, to the complete strangers who picked me up from the road and consoled me during the 45 minutes I truly believed the boy I loved was dead, to the injured man who I had mistaken for him and then on my recognition that he was not Amaury, held me and told me everything was going to be fine, despite being all alone and scared himself, to the woman who opened her doors to the survivors, to the friend who offered me shelter and went out to buy new clothes so I wouldn't have to wear this blood stained top, to all of you who have sent caring messages of support - you make me believe this world has the potential to be better. to never let this happen again.

but most of this is to the 80 people who were murdered inside that venue, who weren't as lucky, who didn't get to wake up today and to all the pain that their friends and families are going through. I am so sorry. There's nothing that will fix the pain. I feel privileged to be there for their last breaths. And truly believing that I would join them, I promise that their last thoughts were not on the animals who caused all this. It was thinking of the people they loved. As I lay waiting for my bullet to end my mere 22 years, I envisioned every face that I have ever loved and whispered I love you, over and over again, reflecting on the highlights of my life. Wishing that those I love knew just how much, wishing that they knew that no matter what happened to me, to keep believing in the good in people, to not let those men win. Last night, the lives of many were forever changed and it is up to us to be better people, to live lives that the innocent victims of this tragedy dreamt about but sadly will now never be able to fulfil. RIP angels. You will never be forgotten.

On Friday evening 130 people lost their lives in Paris following six simultaneous terrorist attacks by the group ISIS. Those who were targeted had done nothing wrong and were going about their normal lives. The attacks took place at restaurants, bars and a music venue. As soon as news of the shootings broke out, many were quick to blame Islam. Whilst Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attacks, that does not mean that Islam as a religion is to blame. Islamic State is an extremist group of people who claim to be Muslims. There are 1.6 billion Muslims in the world; membership of ISIS is estimated at 100, 000. The percentage of Muslims who are Terrorists is estimated around 0.0000637%. Islam is not to blame for the attacks.

Whoever kills a human being it shall be as if he has killed all mankind, and whoever saves the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind. Qur’an 5:32 Read these verses from the Qur’an. Consider this question: Why do these verses support the view that Islam is not to blame for the Paris attacks? Do good to relatives, orphans, the needy, the neighbour who is near of kin, the neighbour who's a stranger, to the companion at your side, and to the traveller. Qur’an 4:36

Some people on social media have turned their anger towards refugees, yet it is these terrorist groups that have driven the refugees away from their home! “I can't tell you how I felt when I heard about the attack in Paris last night," said one 25-year-old Kurdish Syrian man from Aleppo. "I fled Syria because of [ISIS]. Last night, I could not sleep. I can't explain my anger at seeing [ISIS] in France."

Did you know that a Muslim security guard prevented one of the suicide bombers from entering the Stade de France? Does this story surprise you? Why? Why are facts like this not in the news as often as associating terrorism with Islam?

Why did many people change their FB profile pictures over the weekend? Do you think it is an effective thing to do? Why?

Why did many buildings around the world light up their buildings in support of Paris? Do you think this is an effective thing to do? Why?

Have you seen this on social media? If so, what is the message the Muslims are trying to put across?

Have you heard of Adel Termos and what he did to save hundreds of lives on Thursday?

Think – Pair - share What is your reaction to this? Why?

On EastEnders on Monday night, Nancy asked Tamwar why he had a specific page marked in his Quran, Tamwar recited a passage in Arabic and explained that it means: "Do good to relatives, orphans, the needy, the neighbour who is near of kin, the neighbour who's a stranger, to the companion at your side, and to the traveller." "That to me, is what Islam is about," added Tamwar. "Be kind to people, family and strangers alike, and love them." EastEnders episode last week provides an example of a Muslim reciting his favourite verse from the Quran (The Muslim Holy Book).

Link Jesus’ ‘Good Samaritan’ parable and your own modern day versions to the terrorist attacks of last Friday. What can the world learn from the Bible verse and the Quran verse? ‘Love your neighbour as yourself’. Bible: Luke 10:27 ‘Do good to relatives, orphans, the needy, the neighbour who is near of kin, the neighbour who's a stranger, to the companion at your side, and to the traveller. Be kind to people, family and strangers alike, and love them.’ Quran: Surah 4:36
